Found a beautiful apartment on Airbnb for Rs 2,000/night. Booked it for my wedding. Host asked me to pay 50% advance via PayPal/bank transfer for “instant confirmation.” Sent Rs 30,000. Now the host is not responding.
Red flags: requesting payment outside the Airbnb platform, pressure for quick confirmation, unusually low prices. Airbnb protects payments within their system. Do this: File a dispute with your bank immediately (within 7 days for best chance), report the listing to Airbnb with proof, check if refund is possible. Contact: Your bank’s dispute resolution team + Airbnb customer support + file a complaint at cybercrime.gov.in.
