Booked hotel on fake Booking.com—payment gone, confirmation never came

Found a luxury 5-star hotel for Rs 4,000/night on “Booking.com.” Paid Rs 20,000 advance via bank transfer for 5 nights. No confirmation email for 12 hours. When I checked the official Booking app, the hotel isn’t even listed! Website now shows “error.”
Scammers clone travel sites with misspelled URLs (bookng.com, bookking.com instead of booking.com). Payment goes to their bank account, not the real hotel. VERIFY: Always book directly on official app/site, check HTTPS lock icon, verify URL carefully. DO THIS: 1) Contact your bank immediately for chargeback (within 7 days), 2) Don’t pay any more deposits, 3) Take screenshots of the fake site. CONTACT: Your bank’s dispute team + cybercrime.gov.in with fake website URL + report to Booking.com.
