Received email from “HDFC Bank Personal Loan” approving Rs 10 lakhs. Never applied! Email has bank logo. Account terms look official. Is someone opening a loan in my name? What’s happening?

Someone may be using your personal info to apply for loans. This email might also be phishing. VERIFY: 1) Go directly to HDFC Bank’s official website (type URL yourself), login to your account, check if any loan application exists, 2) Don’t click the email link. PROTECT: 1) Check your CIBIL credit report at cibil.com/freecredit (free once/year) for unauthorized loans/inquiries, 2) Place a fraud alert at all 3 credit bureaus (CIBIL, Equifax, Experian), 3) Monitor your credit. CONTACT: Your bank + CIBIL + cybercrime.gov.in with email screenshot + file identity theft complaint.
