Sold my car, buyer gave a post-dated cheque for Rs 4 lakh. Before deposit date, he’s calling to say he’ll file cheque bounce case if I deposit it as he doesn’t have funds. Asking me to accept 50% less in cash. Is this legal?

CHEQUE MANIPULATION FRAUD! This is a coercive scam. If a buyer gives you a cheque and it bounces, IT IS THE BUYER who is liable under Section 138 of Negotiable Instruments Act — NOT the seller. DO THIS: Deposit the cheque, if it bounces file legal notice within 30 days. CONTACT: Consult a lawyer + file complaint at local police + report to cybercrime.gov.in if threatened online.
